The Great Smoky Mountains, who are members of the Appalachian Mountains, have a wide variety of altitudes, which makes them home to more than 400 species of vertebrates, 100 species of trees and 5000 species of plants. Hiking is the park's main attraction, with more than 800 miles( 1,300 km) of roads, including 70 miles( 110 km) of the Appalachian Trail. Other activities are fishing, horseback riding and visiting some of the nearly 80 historical structures .



Abrams Falls 

Abrams Falls Trail is a busy and return trail located near Townsend, Tennessee, which has a waterfall and is classified as moderate. The trail is mainly used for hiking and is accessible throughout the year .
Abrams Fall is a popular waterfall with a 25 -foot decline on a bumpy cliff next door. The trail is well maintained. It has some spots with roots and rocks. The trail has a lot of use. Wait for other hikers. At certain times of the year, it will be extremely mobbed. Note: The park closes Cades Cove Loop Road to motor vehicle traffic on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the morning until 10:00 am, between the beginning of May and the end of September of each year, to allow cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy the creek .









 

Grotto Falls 

Grotto Falls Trail is a busy round-trip trail located near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, which has a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The road is mainly used for walks, walks, nature trips and bird watching, and is best use from April to November .

NOTE: From May 13 to November 15, 2019, there is NO access to the trail from Monday to Thursday. Access is given only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and federal vacations. If freezing temperatures are sustained long enough, the waterfall will freeze, forming a beautiful frost editorial. Hikers should plan on spending 3-4 hours on the moderately difficult trail. The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 4.4 miles .

Access Trail: Gabes Mountain Trail- Cocke County, Tennessee Trailhead: Park in the designated hiker parking area at Cosby Picnic Area. Backtrack on foot approximately 100 gardens along the road to the signed start of the Gabes Mountain Trail .








 


Rainbow Falls 

Named after the rainbow produced by the mist the 80 -foot-tall waterfall creates, Rainbow Falls is a beautiful vision. The hike to and from the autumns is 5. 4 miles and considered reasonably difficult. Hikers should plan for a 3-5 -hour trip-up .

Access Trail: Rainbow Falls Trail- Roaring Fork, Gatlinburg area Trailhead: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light# 8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Continue past the Noah "Bud" Ogle homesite to the marked Rainbow Falls parking area .








 


Mouse Creek Falls 

This 45 -foot-tall waterfall is secluded and off the beaten path, stimulating it ideal for those wishing to view it without a bystanding mob. The 4-mile hike is considered moderate in difficulty. It takes about 2-3 hours to hike to the waterfall and back .

 Access Trail: Big Creek Trail- Cataloochee, North Carolina Trailhead: Exit I-40 at Waterville Rd. Turn left after intersect the Pigeon River and followed 2.3 miles to an intersection. Continue straight to a large parking area at road's end .
